All Because Two People Fell In Love…

June 7th, 2010

These are my parents on June 7, 1980…

MomDadWedding

A LOT has happened in the last 30 years for them.  In between those 30 years is 23 years in their current home, 3 dogs, 4 kids (3 of their own and they adopted me) in 2.5 years (my younger siblings are ‘Irish Twins’)!  That’s FOUR kids… to help with homework, all in braces at the same time, practicing 4 different band instruments after school, 4 different sets of interests between dance, soccer, football, baseball, and band.  Four kids going to formal dances, within two years of graduating in high school (two in ’00, one in ’01 and the last in ’02), getting our licenses and driving, in college at the same time (three of us graduated college in the same weekend!).  In the 29 years of having kids there have been hundreds of hours of kids on tape, hundreds of curlers and ratted pony tails for dance, hundreds of claps and cheers and for trombones and football plays and finish lines crossed.  There has never been a dull moment in the Fischer house!

They put off second honeymoons and campers, drove cars until they could drive no more, spent hours cheering us on, and worked their butts off to let us dance and play sports and play instruments.  The lessons of their hardwork and team work were not lost on us kids.  Each of us appreciates deeply the sacrifice and time our parents put into allowing us to be kids and to partake in activities that are still a big part of who we are today.  Dad shared equal girly duties (hair curlers and dance competitions) as Mom did boy duties (track meets, band shows, and football games).  They were always present, always participating, and that is something I know we will all share with our families someday.

Another thing that is not lost on us is that our parents still LOVE each other and that they are a TEAM.   They didn’t just go through the madness of raising 4 kids (because that’s not enough, right?), their marriage survived two different bouts of cancer for my dad, the personal strain and burden of owning a family business, losses of parents and dear loved ones, the typical highs and lows of extended family and finances.  Marriage isn’t easy – you have to work at it every day.  But when you decide that you are going to love each other and be a team through the thick and the thin, the good, the bad, and the worst – and you mean it – you can make it.  And they have.  I am so appreciative to the wonderful example they have set for us – we know it’s an ever changing dynamic, but they make the work look like it can be fun and most certainly worth it.

Congratulations, Mom and Dad on your 30th Anniversary!!!  Here is to another 30 – this time with hopefully more relaxation! We love you!

fab.weddings: Stephanie + Patrick | Minneapolis, MN

May 20th, 2010

Stephanie and Patrick hired me to coordinate their picture-perfect May 2, 2009 wedding at Mount Olivet Lutheran church and the reception at the Calhoun Beach Club.   They were so easy and fun to work with and I loved Stephanie’s choice to use navy instead of black for the bridesmaid dresses.  The weather was absolutely perfect for the guests to enjoy their cocktails on the terrace at Calhoun Beach Club overlooking Lake Calhoun.   It was my first time working with Graddy Photography, who took fantastic detail shots, as well as CBC.  I was wowed by D’Amico catering staff and can’t wait to get back there next week (with the Graddy’s again too)!  These were another set of clients that I went through withdrawals over when the wedding was done.  Thanks so much, Stephanie and Patrick!  You guys are awesome!

The best part about working with D’Amico is they provide the cake with the catering menu.  Not only is it convenient, they’re well design AND taste fantastic!

fab.weddings: Amber + Russ | Mounds View, MN

April 18th, 2010

This post is packed with detail shots from Amber and Russ’ 1.24.09 wedding.  When Amber and I sat down we hit it off right away with our gabbing.  I was thrilled to be hired to coordinate their wedding.  They had a blue winter wedding with pops of orange in the flowers and silver, glittery goodness everywhere else.  Ambers friend, Jenny, owned all the decor you see in these pictures and decorates for fun (or at least she did a year ago.  I tried to tell her to start making money with that stuff!) and graciously offered her decor services as well as floral eye to give Amber the winter wonderland she wanted.   It was fa-reezing and I got to go with the photographers (Jessica of JM Photography and her second shooter Laura Ivanova).  We were all so numb but it was SO fun to be able to help everyone out.  Thanks so much everyone.  My first winter wedding will always be one I remember and love.

Thank you to Jessica of JM Photography for catching literally EVERY detail from the day.  It’s so awesome when photographers care about the hard work the couple put into selecting those very details.

Shots between the ceremony and reception were SO worth it.  If this doesn’t at least get you to consider a winter wedding, I don’t know what would!

I Do ReDo Bridal Expo this Saturday

April 15th, 2010

If you’re not busy Saturday and in the Northwest Suburbs (or just want to take a drive) you should come visit the I Do Redo Sale and Bridal Expo at the Maple Grove Community Center.  It’s got a little something for everyone in any stage of planning.  For the thrifty shoppers, there will be a consignment sale of gently used wedding decor, design items, and some wedding attire.  For those looking to book vendors, you can find everything from planners (me!  come see me!), photographers, and florists to bridal yoga training, marriage counselors, a local rep for The Knot, and anything else you can imagine.  There are only two vendors per category so you can spend some time talking with each of them and most of the time at bridal fairs you can get discounts on vendors (hint, hint).  It’s $5 at the door or if you know one of the vendors going, check to see if they have free passes (I have a few left, email me if you’re interested).  I’ve never done a bridal fair/expo before so I’m not sure what I’ve gotten myself into, but I’m excited to try it out.   Hope to see you there!
