This is Me | December

December 13th, 2010

The next edition of getting to know me falls perfectly on the calendar with creating a Christmas list!  Let’s consider this the fancy-things-I-want-but-don’t-have-such-a-fancy-budget-to-actually-purchase list.  My real list includes things like gift cards or movies.  But here I can dream big, right?  I have a very eclectic palette when it comes to things I like to wear or carry – I go between Target fancy and wanting to deck out in all Burberry (so not in the budget).

Paris Map:  Paper Source | Necklace: Anthropologie |  Bag:  Burberry | iPad:  Apple

Feel free to bribe me with/buy me any of the items listed above! ;)  Or… be sure to donate to families in need this year.  There are MANY people that are in desperate financial need, and every little bit helps.  I hope you give to someone deserving this year!

This is Me | November

November 28th, 2010

It was suggested to me to let you know a bit about who I am.  If you knew me a couple years ago, you’d have known that a girl like me had no problem gabbing away at personal things, but in the last couple years I’ve become a bit of a recluse – ok, that was dramatic.  But a recluse in comparison to my former self.   So, in an effort to share more about the woman you’re supposed to hire to plan your wedding (!), I invite you to look at a little bit of ‘me.’

November edition?  What makes me laugh!  It’s going to be hard to get along if you take life too seriously.  Here are a few of my ‘happy’ places…

The Oatmeal

(I don’t know anything about cats, but this is helpful for future encounters)

Someecards

I firmly believe there is a Someecard for any and all occasions in life.

Cute Overload

How can this NOT brighten your day?!?

That’s it for now.  Take a gander… hope it entertains you as well.

Fab First Dance Songs

January 9th, 2009

If you are like my husband and I were when we got married, the first dance song is a tough one. Our first slow dance was in high school, at the Sadie Hawkins dance*, in our matching flannels to N’Sync’s “God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You.” Our first kiss happened when the song “Back That Thang Up” by Juvenille was playing on the radio. While the second would have been funny to us, it wasn’t quite first dance material for the grandmas. In our 8 years together before we got married we had a lot of slow dances, but none of the songs really spoke to us or who we were at the time we got married. *(i should add this was also our first wedding, officiated by Mr. Kirch, the school’s athletic director, and i’ve got the 25 cent ring and phony vows to prove it!)

So what did we do? Or rather, what did I do with a husband that loves him some rap and hip hop music that would have preferred we dance to some Justin Timberlake song? As a person that loves lyrics to songs and the meanings behind the songs, I made play list with different genres that really felt like ‘us’ and then played it for Jason. He immediately liked The Fray’s “Look After You,” and that is what we did our spin-in-circles-too-nervous-to-try-any-fancy-moves first dance. And it was wonderful.

I thought I’d share my latest favorite song that pairs Colbie Caillat and Jason Mraz (swoon!) singing a song called “Lucky.” I should probably throw out that I love any and all mushy love songs so what I’ll list may not be your style, but that’s just it – pick a song that speaks to you and your sweetie. Find something that means something and you’ll find yourself smirking to if you’re out somewhere and you hear it. Like I did at the McDonald’s at the London airport as I ordered my Egg McMuffin and The Fray serenaded me.

So, here it is: My list of songs that could be great first dance songs!

More Upbeat:

Lucky – Colbie Caillat and Jason Mraz

Be Here Now – Mason Jennings (our #2 pick)

The Way I Am – Ingrid Michaelson (short and definitely sweet!)

Let’s Stay Together – Al Green

New Twists on the Originals:

Make You Feel My Love – Adele
(originally performed by Bob Dylan and a popluar cover by Garth Brooks)
*fell in love with her in London!

That’s All – Michael Bublé
(originally performed by Nat King Cole)

Feels Like Home – Chantel Kreviazuk
(originally performed by Randy Newman)

Such Great Heights – Iron and Wine
(originally performed by The Postal Service)

Personal Fave slow songs:

Forever – Ben Harper (great lyrics)

True Companion – Marc Cohen

The Way You Look Tonight – Tony Bennett

Amazed – Paul McCartney

Another site I like is www.songfacts.com. You can find the artists inspiration and what the songs really mean. I especially liked that our first dance choice, “Look After You” by The Fray, was about the first girl the lead singer “felt 100%” about – who later ended up becoming his wife! Pretty perfect if you ask me!

If you have music to share, send it my way and I can make more music posts. Info@fabyoulousevents.com
